Competence before status.
Competence is the ability to do real work to a discernible standard. It can be early, self-taught or difficult to credential.
Depth takes sustained work.
Depth reveals constraints, trade-offs, failure modes and the edge of one's knowledge. Access to information is not the same thing.
Range must survive reality.
Range matters when an idea, method or standard crosses a boundary and still changes a test, object or decision.
Stay long enough to learn.
One conversation cannot tell us what a person may become. We return to the attempt, compare judgment with evidence and keep showing up when useful.
